Contribution

The YHA's contribution is allocating an area at the rear of the property for an urban art project and presenting local artists an opportunity to display their artwork in a high transit area.

Artists will undertake mural development as charity. Volunteering their time, talents, paint products & equipment for the YHA and local community. The estimated value of the artists contribution averages at $2000 for painting materials alone. This figure excludes any artist remuneration and equipment hire.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The envisaged design concept, for the development of a mural for the YHA, is a collaboration between 21 local urban artists. The theme construct has been derived from the artist's interpretation of the terms "Mythical Woodlands" and "Rocky Environmental". The mural's imagery will combine characters (people, animals & fantasy creatures) with traditional street art (pieces) on a scenic landscape backdrop (trees, flowers, rocks, clouds, etc).

DESIGN COLOUR SCHEME

For the YHA Wall Mural, all artists have been advised and have agreed to utilise a natural earth style colour scheme for the production.  The foreground will consist of a tonal range of white, cream, beige, sepia, dark brown and black for each individual artwork. These will be set upon a rust orange brown background with an illuminating orange glow highlighting the artwork. Ideally producing a resemblance to an old sepia photograph.

The earth based colours will work together to complement the surrounding environment, whilst also creating a new natural setting amidst the already present mechanical concrete landscape.

Limiting the colour range controls the outcome of the production, restricts individual colour expression and encourage the artists to work harmoniously as a group.

Concept Design Development

The involved artist's sketch submissions have been superimposed with the earthy colour scheme in photoshop. This illustrates the idealised projected outcome of the design concept.

An experimental aerosol painting was conducted with the chosen Colour Scheme to confirm colour compatibility (ref, Image#1).
