Final Design Concept
implementation

Utilising sketch submissions, colour scheme and concept each artist will be allocated a portion of the wall to implement the design development into production.

There will be three (3) key stages to development;

  • Preparation - A compressor and air spray gun will be used to prepare the surface of the wall
    with the background colour.
  • Major Artwork - Using the colour scheme and design, artist will recreate their submitted sketches on a large scale,
    with aerosol paint, brushes and rollers.
  • Detailing - This will involve concept theme detailing in the background creating continuity throughout
    the individual artworks.

Whilst performing at a high skill level of technical precision, each artist is capable of working individually or co-operatively as a team, when necessary.

Safety

All artists will undergo an onsite induction prior to commencement of the mural artwork . This will involve;

  • Safety
    Inform the artist of essential safety precautions to be followed. ie;
    • All artists will be instructed to use caution if the use of a ladder is required.
      Use of the three point of contact safety approach will be encouraged.
    • At no stage will the artist be permitted to have their feet more than 2m off the ground.
    • Ventilation masks to be used for personal safety.
    • Highlight public pathway precautions.
    Acknowledge the YHA and Perth City Council policy standards for safety.
  • Amenities
    Artists will be using the onsite YHA facilities. A brief orientation to the toilets, bathroom,
    rest area and cafe will be conducted for the artists convenience.
  • Waste disposal
    Inform artist of the Perth City Resource Recovery guides.
    Emphasise the use of approved waste disposal facilities and indicate their locations.

Security

The area behind the YHA building is a public space and all artists are volunteers. As the City of Perth already has sufficient security and police patrols in place, providing additional security for the production would be deemed unnecessary. This is considered amongst the artists as a low risk venture.

The Perth Police have been notified of the painting project.

Impact STATEMENT

The environmental impact on the surrounds during production will be kept to a minimum.

  • All rubbish will be disposed of on site departure. Area will be left in the condition of arrival.
  • Artists will be made aware during induction, that the pathway is public property* and users of the pathway
    have priority to move freely along the path whilst painting is in progress.

*Impact Concerns: Although the pedestrian traffic is lower in numbers over the weekend, comparatively to weekly business hours, demarcation of 30% the of the pathway width can be implemented to minimize the impact on pedestrians using the path. As per Guidelines: Construction barriers in public areas document(736) suggests.
